UGG is one of the most popular and fashionable brands in the world when it comes to boots. Everyone wants a pair and they will no doubt be another big seller as we move into the holiday shopping season.
It is true that both official and unofficial UGG boots use sheepskin to create their boots, and this is not achieved merely by shearing a sheep, rather using the actual skin as well. However much of the controversy is regarding the treatment of sheep during the process of removing their skin, as many videos circulating the Internet show inhumane treatment of animals and the use of mutilation techniques such as mulesing.
The reputation of UGGs has two sides. The first is the fluffy and comfortable goodness that everyone wants to see and feel on their feet. However, the real, yet scarcely known story and reputation of UGGs is the horrible treatment that the sheep receive to provide buyers with their wool.
For many Ugg devotees, the shoes’ comfort is key. “Shoes have never been more challenging andinsanely unwearable than they are now, so it’s natural that girls would want to go with an Ugg,” Doonan said. In the Vogue piece, the magazine’s market editor Jessica Sailer had no problem admitting her affection for Uggs.
Sheepskin and ugg boots are a casual type of boot. Ugg boots are exceptionally warm and are great for cold weather (up to -30 degrees Fahrenheit) – however, they should not be worn in excessively muddy or wet conditions. If you are looking for warmth while trudging around the house or the city, a sheepskin or ugg boot will be ideal, but if you need a boot for more severe winter weather conditions, you might want to try a pair of snow boots instead.
One of the spokesman of UGG company points out that the relatively high price of Uggs as a problem, “in a period of limited discretionary spending”, and suggests that consumers are unlikely to buy more than one pair. There’s also the issue that they may simply be out of vogue.
