Wingtip shoes feature a toe cap that comes to a point in the center, and spreads out toward the sides of the shoes, in a shape that somewhat resembles wings. This part of the shoe is sometimes perforated with small holes around the edges, but not always.
The original wingtip shoe was defined as a low heel, leather shoe that was laced up the front. The shoes were identifiable by their M-shaped design across the shoe’s toe box, which created a wing-like design that extended along the side of the shoe. This decorative design is perforated and sometimes there are additional swirl-like patterns inside of the toe box.
Men’s wingtip shoes were originally known as “full brogues” back in the United Kingdom when men wore them only for walking outdoors in the damp countryside. Today, “wingtips” are a common sight on businessmen all over. They exist in many forms from business to casual.
